Composites have singularly failed to increase the number of participants across the grades where they were allowed.. that is factual overall since their introduction in the 1970's
The multiple club registration loophole has continued to be used to create "composites" and the results of that is what we now see for MJ18A 8 in 2008. If you have other facts to dispute this, please submit..
All we get out of this is the top 10 percentile of a grade where 80% stop rowing in the next 12 months. Talk about wastage. The top 10 percentile is always going to be smaller when the population at the level is lower.

if it wasnt for the multiple club registration you would only have 3 8's this year maybe they just wanted to focus on something else just because the 8 entry is low doesnt mean people have quit there are 12 4's 19 doubles 34 scullers the 34 scullers who are not racing the 8 (as it is on at the same time??!!) thats 4 full 8's but then there would only be 2 scullers racing

I accept your point regarding scullers...
I don't ever recall too many composite sculls entries down the years however.
My points is that the " composite" junior 18 8 might be a bridge too far for a lot of clubs. So the answer might have been 5/6 instead of three. We'll never know will we.
However in the overall scheme of things Composites have led to a decrease in in participating clubs not an increase in the grades that they were allowed in. That is still true whether we want to acknowledge it or not.

-16 karma superdacentrower..seems like someone doesnt like you..... if it wasnt for the multiple club registration then there could have been 5 eights in the race because carlow and commercial might have each put out an eight each...commercial would have definitly id say. and maybe more clubs would have entered if the carlow composite wasnt there because then they would have thought that they have a better chance??

If you dont enter an event cos ur afraid your going to be beaten then theres something wrong, go out and give it a lash, youd never know what might happen! if we all thought like that there would only be 1 entry in every event ant a total of about 50 people rowing in the country, we train so we can race so RACE!!!

i dont think that junior composites would help numbers.in the bigger clubs like bish, micks, portora and commercial they would just pick their top few and join with another club like this year!this would leave lads who would be racing on the bank or maybe out of the sport altogether!

Agreed! I feel sorry for any of the commercial or carlow lads that trained all year long but once the composite was agreed they weren't able to make the cut where they would have if it hadn't gone ahead.
