Good result for Portora. Unfortunately I wasn't at the regatta but from what I hear from friends in attendance many of the senior and intermediate events were run very close to each other so there wasn't much of a break between races for some rowers, is that true?
I also heard that a Garda Novice 4+ was disqualified for showing up late to the start, had they already been on a warning or were they very late that it warrented disqualification?

Without knowing the details, are crews not obliged to be on time? Or are we happy to carry on with the "it'l do" attitude of waiting 5mins for this crew and 10 for that and then bitching when the regatta is running 1 1/2 hours behind time?
Would you turn up late at Henley? The Charles? Amsterdam....?
No. you would not. Let's play the same standards here.
A crew should not need to receive a warning - if they're late, they're late.
Of course, let's not lose sight of the people who often are the real culprits in this - the coaches. I am sure we all know coaches who hold their crews to the last minute - or the too-late minute. And quite often it is Novices or J14/15/16's who suffer.
Time is time. Late is late

I don't know how late they were I was just asking the question. They are obliged of course to show up on time but from my recollection a warning is given, but again i do not know how late they were or the circumstances for the m being late.
Also, comparing a Trinity regatta to Henley or the Charles is not approproate. It is a small local regatta (for the mos part) in which you would think that they would do their best to accomodate local clubs if it is warranted. Again I say I do not know the circumstances of them being late or why they were late, I was just asking to see what the story behind it was.
From what I was told the regatta did run behind time anyway and that some races went off without umpires. I also heard stories about blade clashing and crashes and poor decision making. Overall not an efficiently run regatta by the sounds of things.

I agree with quackers some of the senior and intermediate events were close together but so were some junior events. Portora first 8 did compete in the intermediate eights aswell. I also think there are a couple of 15 and 16 year olds in that boat, so a pretty good result to win the senior eights against Trinity Seniors by 2 and a half lenghts according to the Irish Times today.

Yeah Galway will definitly be big favourites for the 4 at Champs. Can't see anyone stopping them unless this carlow crew are fast.
I amn't so sure about the 8 though. They will definitly be up there but Trinity were clear winners against them at the weekend. Neptune also 'beat' (I know they were dq'd but still were in the lead) them at Neptune. There hasn't been much on show for the inter 8's this year but hopefully metro will change the trend.

There is no denying that Galway were in great form but did Galway win any race on the South station? From what I can see the North station dominated the wins in heats and finals in the races that were closely matched in terms of competition. I haven't seen the final results and did not see all the races on the day but from what I did see it seemed to be the trend!!

From what I saw you are right. The North station seemed to have a pretty big advantage and it showed in the race results. very few south station wins

Irrespective of lanes, Galway must be favourites to win Inter fours. There was very little between them and Neptune at the first two grand league regattas but Galway seem to be faster now. Neptune will always be fast for the champs though, so they are in with a shout. Queens for the Inter 8 i guess, with Galway challenging strong. Carlow is an unknown quantity at the moment but their speed might be revealed at Metro, if they go. They will probably be in the mix somewhere. Can't rule out UCD either.
