Personally I think the Micks double or Lisa Dilleen in the Scull would be our best shot at a medal

As far as I know, both Lisa Dilleen and Claire/Laura D'Urso (I can't tell them apart) are both junior again next year and depending on how well their double goes in the coupe they may be considered for the Worlds next year. But it's early days yet and a lot could happen in the meantime!

Ah come on lads!! Get real like!! Irish junior is a sham!!! FACT!! There's no funding!! None of those lads are going!! But i do say there'll be some stiff comp tho! The second yr junior will be on top no doubt!! I heard that one of them frm Neptune has been injured for a while, he's got hip problems or something?!? Mightn't be back i here?! So that's one down!!

looking at the irish times today they don't sound as cynical towards junior worlds i wonder if mhughs would care to elaborate as he gave a quote It's a fantastic situation for us, given that half the men's team and all but one of the women will be under age again next year," said Ireland team manager Michael R Hughes. www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/sport/2008/0725/1216917539299.html

i agree with superdeacentrower. by my maths theres only 5 out of 17 rowers from the coupe junior again next year and if they didnt try a boat for junior worlds this year they prob wont try one next year for men

it isnt a case of just tryin for a junior worlds crew. the standard clearly isnt there for us to be competitive at that level!.. other than the womens double of dileen and d'urso obviously.

What about Peter Grogan? Sill Junior next year, 2 years running in the Coupe quad, silver bronze and bronze again. Has to be in with a chance??
I think the Dilleen/ D'Urso double is a given, and maybe some others will jump up to the mark over the next season.

I must make it clear that I do not write in this discussion board in any capacity other than to represent MY OWN PERSONAL viewpoint as a member of a rowing club.
So I cannot give you a "Quote" as representing anything. Officially I HELD the title of Coupe team manager, but that event is now over and reports are filed, so I am busted back to private.
My comment reported in the times is reflective of a bouyant result for the Coupe team. 6 of the men and 10 of the women are eligible again next year if they keep it going.
Would the IARU send crews to the Worlds, I believe so, if there were athletes of the standard. The coaching structure (which could be very different in 2009) will look at the perfomance when the time comes. I am pretty sure that there are no closed minds on the issue. Everything is down to performance.
