Well done Peter. Nice to see that British Rowing do not apply the official secrets act, and publish the results of their trials on their website.

Well done Peter. Nice to see that British Rowing do not apply the official secrets act, and publish the results of their trials on their website. Here here, the wateredge photographer was the greatest source of info for the crew listings at duisberg

Ye obviously didn't look too hard then lads - lets not bring up this old chestnut again - there was excellent up to the minute info from Martin Mc over the week-end from Duisburg with a mix of his own and thewateredge photos on the flickr site and also video's of the races themselves up within minutes on the Facebook page - credit where credit is due - the story re the Trials results has already been played out so lets leave it at that - also lets not deflect the conversation away from both Peter and Richards achievements with GB, it will be interesting to see how they go in Bled, obviously an U23 angle to the entry as there is also with the Irish crews which are listed on the World Rowing site and were in the Times yesterday - best of luck to both sets of crews

Well, Strokesider, you seem to have a hangup about our Performance Director. Have you written to him (his email address is well known) to complain or to request results?
From what I have seen, coaches, athletes have received emailed results within minutes of each of the assessments and trials.
Furthermore they have been on the Irish Times - hardly the behaviour of an official secrets act!
Indeed, glancing at your previous postings there is a sense that you "have it in for" the entire structure governing the sport in Ireland.

I also agree with chocolate, I think that this year the coaching and the stucture in place is far better than previous years. You also have to remember that some people have deliberately chosen not to trial and now may realised they should have done so. Maybe sour grapes.

"From what I have seen, coaches, athletes have received emailed results within minutes of each of the assessments and trials." I am neither a coach or athlete just a lover of rowing. From the various quotes above it would appear that in contrast to the GB system I have to "request" the results each time. My point is simply why not post them where anyone with an interest in Irish rowing can see them. For the record, unlike the suggestion by masterstroke, I have no objection to the selection policies only the hoops that I have to jump through trying to find someone to e-mail me the results.

Well strokeside as neither coach nor athlete and therefore not involved in the trialling system, you are probably not on the mailing list of relevant people who need to know the relevant results.
Frankly it is hardly the fault of the High Performance Director that notices are not posted on a website. Surely more of an admin problem? Perhaps you would be willing to sit at a desk and update the site 24 hours a day รก la Sky News.......

"you are probably not on the mailing list of relevant people who need to know the relevant results." Based on the foregoing comment mine about the official secrets act stands ! For the record I have asked why the results are not published and it is apparently a decision by the PD so actually it is his fault :-)
Not sure why people are getting twitchy about this subject. I am just expressing an opinion that it is nice that the GB system have an open transparent system where results are published for EVERYONE to see them.

notbowside, Are you suggesting that the current system is NOT transparent?
Surely it is the prorogerative of the Perf Director to broadcast or not? There is no evidence that results are witheld - they become known and circulated quite quickly as far as I can determine. Indeed, the email addresses of the PD and coaches are readily available ay the Union website as follows:
Performance Director: Martin Mc Elroy martin.mcelroy@rowingireland.ie +353 87 0629552 Head Coach: Adrian Cassidy adrian.cassidy@rowingireland.ie +353 87 0672926
BTW......would you prefer the approach of the previous head coach.....Remember how available his results were?

"they become known and circulated quite quickly as far as I can determine". Nobody is disputing this hurler. I am only asking "why not publish them so everyone interested in Irish rowing can see them ?" The only possible reason I can think of is that those in Ulster with British passports could be poached by GB. We are however only delaying the inevitable, as any athletes who are of international standard will be at an international regatta a few months later, where the whole world will be able to see their times.
