Just because a crew is capable of winning at homes doesnt mean they can do the same at coupe. The two regattas are at completely different scales of competition. This year its a bit better but I dont think we'll be getting a gold at coupe unless the two skib lads turlock and someone else go there instead of worlds. why bother not melleding at worlds when we could medel at coupe?!

fili-pacher.. I agree that there was a lot of complaints about the lee pair and bish 4 going to coupe but 2 things i dont understand. The lee pair and the bish pair both bet the portora pair at the selections but there was never a complaint about the portora pair going to coupe.. Why? Maybe people threatened by their coach being the irish one? Secondly, the most complaints were coming from the homes quad of eddie mullarky, mark o brian, conor browne and i can't think of the 4th, who came dead last in their race so if they can't perform at homes, why bother wanting to go to coupe?

the carlow 2- were the only ones out of the male sweep squad that deserved to be there last year, they should have gone in a 4 with eddie mullarkey who was a good bowsider and mark o'brian who was a good strokesider. they were both better sweepers than scullers so you cant compare there sculling performance at homes to how they would have got on sweep rowing at coupe. Derek holland wasnt in charge when the sweep squads were selected so that proves wondells arguement of him being national coach wrong. all them sweep lads were as bad as each other anyway, there was only like 1/2 a length seperating them at trials anyway....

well if they were all as bad as the other then why didn't you trial and get yourself a seat?=) you said that we can't judge o brian, browne and mullarkey on their performance at homes although the three of them had been sculling all year and browne doesn't sweep at all! as a matter of interest, what was the distance between the carlow pair and 2nd place at trials? Lee or bish..?

they didnt race, last year it was based on time trails to seed the heats, carlow rowed course in such a time that they raced the senior pairs etc in their final and didnt actually race the other junior pairs
bish never went to newry last year so as to why they got invited to the trials in cork i never actually knewybit unfair..
the lee pair seemingly deserved their place going on trials but i think after their champs performance people asked questions e.g they came 4th being beat by carlow the coupe pair the jes pair of mullarkey and duffy who only were at homes and the micks pair of o brien and fahy i think it was who were both only at homes so it was farely just to question their homes place going on that..

ok that's a fair point about the champs results.. Didn't know they came 4th.. And i didnt know that bish didnt go to newry, probably had some excuse..it is the bish! What were the times like in the finals for the carlow pair in comparison to first second and third in the other final?

i heard that it was just the fact that the umpires made a mess of it at the start and set the carlow 2- off with the seniors by mistake, on times the difference was very small i believe...

The carlow pair who justly deserved their place at coupe according to some still only managed to come 5th which was the same result as the 8.....

lads you need to seriously get over it don't like it? Don't read it! Not much of a distance? Do you know what the times were, anywhere to find them? Good poing jimsalanger, the carlow pair came in the same position. Maybe harder competition..? I dunno, i wasn't there. Anyone know what the competition was like?

Gent had a good showing, commercial junior women were impressive especially the 2- who won on both days!
bish were given a lesson by the looks in the 8 but medalled on both days in the 8s and 4s so theyll be up there but im still gonna say bann
going by munich i would say hughes will take the single scull? impressive result!
