Well done to all the Queen's guys for showing the best uni's in the uk how to do it!
Keeping the Temple cup on this side of the atlantic lies firmly in the hands of Queens this year (unless a good dutch 8 turns up!).
Queens really have pushed it to another level, they are now the premier uni club in the uk and ireland, will the rest of us be able to keep up with them?
What sort of training are they doing to get such quick success? 2 years ago they weren't a threat to school boys, now big bad oxford brookes are praying to poseidon that they don't get drawn in the same heat!

Great news. Well done Queens.
No secret to how they did it........they trained harder than everyone else. The more you put in the more you get out.

In short, the appointment of a full time professional coach!
It does get results but quite literally at a 'price!'

But UCD appointed a professional coach several years ago and it didn't work for them.

This is true, whereas I have no knowledge how UCD came to make this appointment, the Queen's job was advertised in the UK, NZ, Canada, Australia etc. The job even appeared on the world rowing website.
Does anyone know if UCD adopted similar measures in appointing the post originally?

Fare play to Queens i guess that will be their crew for the remainder of the season.
Is the paid ucd coach just for senior men? If not then it was certainly a sucess for them..

i'm sure the appointment of a full-time coach is a major factor in their success, but i was wondering what the training loads are for the queens guys, it must be something fairly punishing to reap the rewards their getting. I heard that their diets are restricted, someone told me that they were on the atkins diet, but that was last season. Probably a load of bullshit, but they have to be doing something vastly different!

I'm sure we'll never know the true triaining plan they have, fangen-hall probably has it under lock and key.
Its amazing on their part there sure as hell not living the great uni life we all hear of of parties and wild nights thats for sure. How ya can balance uni/studying and i assume 2 training sessions a day is beyond me but the strive for sucess will push anyone on. Their aim is surely beyond the big pot, henley i assume is their main aim??
Actually come to think it are the boat club paying for any of there ventures over seas?? I understand they were in london for a few days for horr, again they must be at BUCS for a couple of days, theyll be off to henley and maybe london met/marlow aswell?? must cost a few bon when it all adds up especially in these times

they pay for it all themselves, the uni gives them a little cash but that gets swallowed quickly on transport costs and entry fees. The lady vic alumni help to pay for the coach, but i think they'll see the recent success and be willing to help the guys out with travel and accommodation costs too!

Just looked at the results there and both the inter and open eights were consecutive races, I assume both crews were completely different? Anybody confirm

Anybody confirm I think your own logic has confirmed that one! So it seems that they are not only fast, but have strength in depth also. Pity about the lack of a mens beginner 8, from what i remember the queens novice guys won pretty much everything they entered last year. is this a sign of a top heavy squad?, can queens keep this effort up when the top guys graduate?

Great result from queens, that brookes 8 they beat won't even be rowing the temple as 4 of them are ineligible for it.
They beat crews with some serious horsepower yesterday, I reckon they could do a Senior/Inter 8 double
As regards Henley, we'll have to see what the americans send over and hopefully queens will get a better draw than they did last year.
Anyone know if theres any decent american crews?
