What happened in the Senior 4-, were Commercial disqualified after beating NUIG.
Wasn't a wind delay, there were technical hitches in the timing system, in fact the conditions were fairly windy early on but were class toward the end of the day.

No. NUIG won by a bowball. Everyone just thought commercial had won as they were on the charge. But NUIG crossed the line first

Oh right, that explains it. Still, doesn't bode well for NUIG. Commercial getting so close to them and Muckross beating them by six seconds in the eight. Should they bother going to Henley at all, cos as far as i know they are going in a Ladies Plate crew. Maybe previous years they might have got a good run but is it a waste of money for them this year, I'm sure Queens will be happy. Can Muckross get fast enough to challenge Queens now is the question.

A question about the senior 4-....
Commercial lost by a bowball, were they in any way cost that race by the 4 that went thorugh the bridge while they were coming down? For the life of me I cannot understand 1. why the cox took them up the line when he had a clear view of what was coming down the course and 2. why there was no marshall on the bridge to direct boats coming down. Can anyone shed any light on this?
Well done to the metro committee though and all competing crews. But again the Union showed that they are still not capable of getting the timing sorted for the GL races..be it delays in issueing of times as in Metro or mistakes with times as in Cork. Needs to get sorted out if the GL is going to continue being a favourable way of running a regatta and it will be interesting to see how much of an effect the delays will have on the metro entry next year.

From what I saw the four stopped coming under the bridge the drifted along - at the same time the commercial four came out of its lane heading for the line and the 4. They were charging for the line and didn't appear to react until the hooter sounded. Perhaps clipping the buoys may have cost them a bow ball.
I agree with Quackers, there should have been a marshal at the bridge, especially given the finish line so close to the bridge. Had there been one the four wouldn’t have been there, had commercial stayed in lane there also wouldn’t have been an issue. I did see a Marshal later but he seemed to be warning crews of the shallow water under the arch allocated to return to the slip. On another note there was a very clear circulation pattern for the warming up area which was available on the website yet a handful of coxes/steer person appeared to observe this. I saw a number of crashes/near crashes ranging from scullers to senior 8’s going up the wrong side. That said, I didn’t see the buoy that was supposed to be on the map and a there was a serious lack of marshalling in this area.
