Too much negative criticism is directed toward the organisers of the champs in my opinion. I have been rowing in/spectating at the Championships for 11 years and year upon year the regatta gets more professional and more organised and by the looks of Mr Hughes' post just above, further improvements have been made this year aswell. I for one commend your efforts organising committee, your hard work IS noticed and good luck for this weekend.

Socrates, we have a bit of news this year.... We have erected boat racking (scaffolding) at the NRC end and the existing racks are all moved to the beach area. There will be no trailer parking near the finish line as in previous years. (The ground has been levelled and the mound moved out to the road alignment). As for the Beach we will have two slips (scaffolding set ups) and a ramp structure from the grass down onto the shale, if all goes well. I hope it will be good. (Gerry Farrell is working hard to make it all happen since Monday). Sorry mhughes, I was on your side about the use of iniscarra and the developments down there, until you began to suggest that the arrangements at the beach are positive!! It is a nonsense anyone having to base themselves a 12 minute walk from the boathouse and any running water. Let alone any shelter if it is raining!! I wouldnt like to to a junior coach explaining to the parents when I get back why their kids have the flu - I would blame the union for forcing them to boat from an area with no shelter And I have been told by someone boating from the beach today that the slips are unusable - they are not actually in the water (!!!), and in any case there are great big poles sticking out of them along the edge, making it highly likely that boats would be damaged. I would continue to boat from the beach As has been said, the course is itself is great, with massive improvements having being made. But the logistics are still a disaster. if you are going to make clubs boat from the beach, build a tent down there or something at the very least

it is improving year on year as it should,
its pretty frustrating though that stuff hitting the website is not proof read for clarity, simplicity and correctness,
all details in relation to the event should be posted well in advance, there really should be no additions to info during the week before unless its an emergency and the club secretaries should also be informed as a safety in case people do not access site, i keep having to check the site to make sure that there have been no changes/updates.

oh yeah ;D and on the actual thread title i see no issue with 2 hour turnaround, it makes people prioritise their boats/events, allows them to contest other events, its really upto individual clubs to makes their own decisions and strategy in their approach to the champs.

Could people stop bitching, we have what we have and its constantly being improved. mhughes shouldnt have to come on this website to defend rowingireland / iaru.
What does any of this have to do with the timetable. If you want to talk about the NRC start a forum.

I brought a trailer down today and we are boating from the beach. The level is below the slips but we were told the ESB dropped the water expecting rain and the the water level will be back up for Fri. Nothing the organisers can do about that. Other than that there seems to be lots of positive changes being made. Hope the weather improves though.
