very well done to the mens 2x!! great result! also well done to both 4x. very competitive times. what were conditions like? some times seem very fast others then dont seem to be. methody pair? bit of a disappointment. im not knocking the lads and well done to them for getting their place and competing at this level, but the pres pair was 20 seconds faster then in the homes? and beat them in trials? just wondering why methody were selected?

The MCB belfast pair finished 8th yesterday and 7th today, the quad finished lower on both days, 10th today aswell. so the fact you congradulated the quad on achieving a lesser placing than the MCB pair who placed higher position is a tad confusing to me, times mean nothing really before you say that. Personally i thought the quad would have done better. Yes true the pres pair beat them at trials and walked away with the homes so in truth yeah the fact they werent the coupe pair is beyond me aswell! The methody pair apres saturday at trials was pretty much a cert to be the coupe pair so i hear and the pres pair were put in a 4+with the lee pair and would have been the coupe 4+ if they met their target at cork regatta, they didnt meet it (apparently) so didnt go, and went homes instead. Whos idea to put the 2 pairs in the 4 i dont know, if i was the pres lads i would have rejected the offer and stayed as the coupe pair as they would have been able to make the a final by the looks. I think both pairs (pres and mcb) are happy how it played out, the pres pair ran away with the homes, and irish jersey and what looks to be the pair pot in the bag, the mcb lad will have gotton to race the coupe and gained experience, all 4 are still junior next year i think so the experience will be good for em.... On another note it seems refinement is the way forward, with only 4 crews ireland take 3 silvers, the 2x on both days and the w4x today, certainly a step up from last years coupe well done all.

Good results. Well done to all those who were selected. Probably what most expected from the rowers sent and events entered.
It is still a shame that the best sweep rowers didn't go. Two weeks before the Coupe most of the best sweep rowers were in medal winning Championship crews. The system needs sorted to ensure that all the the rowers/clubs will sign up for International squads. Too much travelling to sguad selections must be a factor that deters them. Whether it is Newry or Cork- both are at the ends of the country! - really too far to expect full participation. For trials & assessment- Look at a map of Ireland and stick a pin closer to the middle! Surely it was known who move boats and the championships just reinforces the selection. It didn't help that we only have half a championship event in July. Some clubs seem to actively deter their oarsmen from the squad system as it exists.
Prior to the Coupe the MCB pair seem to be getting a bit of stick. In the event they performed better than the 4X who got no criticism.
The timing and location of the September championships will probably demote it to little more than another Interprovincial Munster event!

comparing the pres pair time at Homes and the methody one at Coupe is one of the stupidist things I've read on here and shows a really poor knowledge of rowing. On that basis, would the NUIG four from champs have won the Olympics in Sydney by clear water? Different days, different courses, different conditions. Dont be thick.

Are you suggesting that the rowers get to decide what boat they will row in ? Surely the head coach decides that.
