Anybody now how the cox's for coupe and homes were picked?? the portora cox was picked for homes, does this not seem a bit suspicious seen as derek holland is involved in both portora and rowing ireland?..unfair to other cox's?

As far as I'm aware, coxes were asked to send in voice recordings. From the last trial there were only 3 coxes, one from Tribesmen, one from CAI and one from Portora. The CAI cox is now on the Men's Coupe Team, the Portora cox on the Women's, and the Tribesmen cox has the Women's Sweep for the Homes. As to the other Portora cox I can only assume that he sent in a late recording...?

It does seem a bit dodgy tho... They should of just picked one of the pot winning coxes (and with Portora's current form it could easily be the Portora cox).
On a slight digression, if the Homes are costing €425 for a trip to Nottingham, God only knows how much the coupe is going to cost. As far as i know they haven't announced the price for it yet, possibly trying to keep it on the DL for as long as possible?? I think the members of the coupe team will have significantly lighter wallets after this summer....

I would disagree sixtynine. Once the union know how much the Coupe is going to cost, I think that they will let the rowers know because some people may need time to get the money.. Why would they try and keep it on the DL till the last minute? That may result in some people having to pull out..

That may have been a better plan but the training for the homes starts 2 days after the champs, which isn't enough time to tell a cox to have arrangements in place, especially if they live in enniskillen. Fair point....

Sixtynine: The Coupe is funded by the Sports Council so costs shouldn't be as high as Homes, which are not funded because they don't form part of High Performance plan.

all the pairs that got called back for the april asessement got coupe, there was hardly any pairs and they needed to make up numnbers i guess, none of they pairs are up to the standard in my opinion compared to last year even the previous years.

Not all the pairs that trialed got Coupe.. Some pairs that trialed earlier in the year did not get invited back to the april assesment..

all the pairs that got called back for the april asessement got coupe Anyone that was in any way decent at a junior level in a pair was invited to the April Assessment, and as riggerjigger rightly pointed out, every single one of those rowers has been given a coupe seat.

was the newry canal a fair place for the initial trials in february was it? sorry not sure! i didnt go personally but i do know 2 lads hu trialed in a pair and said they were held up by a slower pair (wont name names) and couldnt pass them out because of lack of space to do so, and so they didnt get a call back and felt hard done, is it true its narrow in places or was this just a story they had made up??

that sounds like a bit of an excuse. i was up in newry and although it is narrower than most rivers there was still space to pass slower crews
