Tomorrow marks the start of Henley Royal Regatta, with the qualifiers being ran off. Best of luck to all irish crews heading across the pond to challenge for holy grail of club rowing. One or two points worth discussing before it all kicks off:
In light of Queens below par showing at Marlow, are they starting to show the first signs of fatigue after a highly successful, but long season?
Can UCD build on there recent success and mount a challenge in the Student Fours?
With four of the senior Muckross 8 that rowed away from everyone in Metro, can Muckross mount a serious challenge for the Wyfolds, along with strong Commercial and Galway entries?
Can NUIG turn there recent defeat (first in over two seasons on irish water) in metro around and do themselves justice in the Ladies Plate?
Here's hoping that all irish crews are highly competitive and put in strong showings through out the week...........

There is alot of chat about their below par showing in Marlow but I think they performed to how realistically fast they are. They were beaten by an oxford boat race/U23 crew, 6 of the winning Cambridge boat race, Thames who are favourite for the Thames cup and like queens have a world class coach, and they were the same speed as Leanders ladies plate boat and Imperial lightweight crew which has a few german internationals etc on board. I doubt queens tapered for this race with henley 10 days later, They have had a good year, had brookes had a fully fit 8 at BUCS they would have beaten queens but that is nothing to be ashamed of with lots of u23 in there, lets wait and see how they do at henley and put an end to the endless debate

I can see Queens logic of entering those events at marlow and duisberg for experience but getting that badly beat cant be that good? UCD look good in the 4 with wins at dublin met and the fastest senior coxed 4 in ireland they could go a few rounds. Commercial i would say are the best looking 4 in the wylfords from results And nuig it seems to depend on their crew, folans been in and out of the 8 all year and it seems to be reshuffled alot so it depends on their crew What irish crews are travelling to qualify? trinity i assume is one..

Good start for the Irish, especially those in the Thames, GRC, St Michaels, Carlow all through. All Queens boats, including Queens B (possible Inter 8's contenders) in the Temple, UCD in the Albert. Cork also in the Brit all through and MUCkross and COmmercial in the Wyfold.
NUIG race today against Leander B... i think
